BARGAINING

Saginaw Twp EA – Settled their reopener for 04-05 – Pending Ratification.

Swan Valley EA - Settled reopener at 2% increase

Saginaw Twp EOPIs still bargaining and the only unsettled unit in the SCEA

GRIEVANCES

Birch Run EA – The Award on the District’s failure to post the Boys Head Track Coach was a split decision. The District is required to post the position but no one was granted pay.

Carrollton EA – Beth McPharlan’s grievance over Improper Placement on the Salary Schedule has been resolved without hearing.

Saginaw ISD – The Transition Center Secretary Grievance has been withdrawn.

Saginaw Twp EA – Randy Kreger’s grievance for Improper Placement on the Salary Schedule has been withdrawn and the Association grievance for Improper Placement on the Salary Schedule will be heard on November 8th.

Sept 2: Labor Walk for Kerry, 4-8 pm, CWA Hall,  1614 Mershon St.

Sept 11: United Way Labor Kickoff, Ironworkers Local 25, 811 Bridgeview South Zilwaukee.

Sept 22: Association (Bldg) Rep Training,  5-8 pm, Arrowood Conf Cntr, 5410 Seidel Rd.

Oct 6: New Member Welcome, 5-8 pm Arrowood Conf Cntr, 5410 Seidel Rd.

Oct 7: SCEA, 4:30 pm, 11B/E Office, 1800 S River Rd.

I. Meeting called to order at 5:00 PM

A. Secretary – No report
B. Treasurer - $100 sent to Democratic Party, $942.42 starting balance in savings, $200.00 starting balance in checking, $920.00 Bargaining Conference payment received today, $500.00 Image Grant received from MEA, $2362.42 Balance in savings

C. President – Distributed and discussed revised SCEA calendar for 2004-2005.

D. MEA Board – Concerning Local Constitution and Bylaws:
C&B that have never been received: BVEA, Carrollton CF & EA, Sag. Twp. T.
C&B that need to be returned for another review:BR CMOPT, BREA, Freeland CFMOPT, Sag ISD CFGMT, Sag Twp OP
C&B due for 5 year review:Bridgeport EA, Carrollton P, Freeland EA, Sag Twp EA, Swan Valley EA, Swan Valley OP
Also, MEA Board of Directors meeting minutes distributed.

STEA-Salary reopener settled waiting for vote from membership

SVEA settled with 2% wage increase
SV ESP in 2nd year of 2 year contract
Carrollton EA in 3rd year of 4 year contract

BREA in 2nd year of 3 year contract
Freeland EA new superintendent and assistant superintendent
MEA Financial Services – Informational meeting in Frankenmuth on 9-9-04.
Organizing Retirement Seminars – Oct for new members. March for older members.
Uniserv Director – AR training on 9-22-04 at 5:00, New member workshop 10-6-04 at 5:00 both meetings held at Arrowwood Conference Center.

IV. SCPAC
A. PAC Drive – More money need – go face to face with members. Van will come to any meetings to help inform members.
B. Phone Bank – Up and running being used by Kerry volunteers. Not exclusive to Kerry can be used by any recommended candidate. Motion made, seconded and carried to set up committee for screening and recommendation of candidates for the 12th and 14th Districts in Saginaw County. Van will set dates.
C. Labor Walk for Kerry/Edwards on 9-2-04, all are invited to attend after this meeting.

V. Old Business
A. OPIE Awards – Set date at October meeting.

VI. New Business
SCEA Dues – Some locals still need to send dues ($0.50 per member).
Budget – Motion made and carried to approve budget.
Image Grant - $625 monies available
Van will contact Saginaw City to see if they will go in on an ad for American Education Week. Motion made, seconded and carried to use $270. for this ad
Motion made, seconded and carried to give $125. to Crime Stoppers.

Kristen Allen – Breast Cancer Walk -Asking schools to get involved, 10-9-04 at Fashion Square Mall. Call Am. Cancer Society before event. Registration at 8:00 AM.
