Education Organizations

This is a listing of some of the most prominent professional organizations in the education field. Many of these have great links to resources that might be useful for Association business (negotiations, for example). An extra bonus is that some of the sites also list links to resources which might be helpful in your classroom.

STANDARD AND POORS SCHOOL EVALUATION SITE -- This is the site with the evaluation statistics on all Michigan schools.

STATEWIDE SCHOOL VIOLENCE HOTLINE: 1-800-815-TIPS. This is a toll-free number. the caller may remain anonymous and information will be forwarded directly to the appropriate emergency dispatch center for action by law enforcement where the affected school is located.

MICHIGAN PUBLIC SCHOOL EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT SYSTEM: Click on "School Employees Retirement System. Included is a BENEFIT ESTIMATOR, PURCHASING SERVICE CREDIT, and a schedule of PRE-RETIREMENT INFORMATION MEETINGS (click on "September 2002 PRIM Schedule Now Online).

THE NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION: The website of the national organization.

NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION -- HIGHER EDUCATION (COLLEGES) SITE -- Site for NEA members who teach at the college level.

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION: So many statistics your brain will overheat.

NATIONAL CENTER FOR EDUCATION STATISTICS: Even more numbers. A "bean counter's" delight.

NATIONAL PTA: This is a very useful site with many links for classroom activities. Very "teacher friendly."

public and private schools combined with useful community data (e.g., housing costs) and maps of the surrounding areas.
